THE BLACK HOLE

A black hole is a region in space with gravity so strong that not even light can escape it. It forms when a massive star collapses under its own gravity. Key parts include the event horizon (the boundary beyond which nothing can escape), the singularity (an infinitely dense core), and the accretion disk (a glowing ring of matter spiraling into the black hole). Black holes range in size from a few times the mass of our Sun to billions of times that of the Sun. Scientists study them indirectly through their effects on nearby matter. They're a fascinating challenge to our understanding of physics!
